Hello – Baxter here!
I am a 9-year-old golden retriever who lives with my Mom, Ardath. I remember the special day when she picked me up and brought me home to live with her. She had a golden retriever who passed away earlier that year so she found a breeder and had the first pick of the litter. She would come and play with us every weekend. Her eyes were on one of my siblings but the day she came to take her new puppy home was the day I made myself known to her. I ran right up to her, looked up at her, and wagged my tail. She laughed, bent down to pick me up, and said “where did you come from?”. And that is when I won her heart. At 6 weeks old, I headed out with my new Mom – the Mom “I” picked.
Ardath took me to Puppy Kindergarten when I was 9 weeks old and I learned the 6 basic commands – sit, stay, lay, heel, come, and my not-so-favorite word – no. I excelled at the class and would do anything for a treat. Still do! Later I passed the exam to become a therapy dog and still love learning new tricks.
I really enjoy it when we go on walks around the neighborhood or hiking on trails or walking downtown with a bunch of other dogs. I get to sniff at everything, check out the latest pee spots, and eat tall grass. Here we are vacationing at Gulf Shores. We loved that beach because I could walk and run on it with her.
I spend most of my days keeping track of her and trying to get her attention when she is working from home. Sometimes I’ll bring 4 tennis balls into her office hoping to get her attention but those conference calls are hard to interrupt. And I love to spend time with her grandchildren – one is especially loving with me.
Ardath realized how much I liked the camera when she took me to a Christmas photo shoot her camera club was holding. I loved all the attention and was included in other family photos that night! So now she creates a new portrait photo of me every Christmas which is included on the Christmas cards I write to her family and friends. Here is a photo the year she made me wear an ugly Christmas sweater and Christmas lights.
When my Mom is not working her day job, she is a Photographer. Ardath has taken many pet photographs and has a special talent in getting even the most bashful of my 4-legged friends to pose for the camera. This blog is a passion of hers as well. She would love to meet other pets and learn their stories. All pets have a special story that should be told. Watch for her. When she is out walking around with her camera, she is always on the lookout for a new 4-legged friend’s story. She would love to hear your story and blog about it!
