Rose of Sherron

Yes, I know I spelled it wrong.  This Rose of Sharon flower is blooming in my yard right now.  Many years ago my neighbor planted one and now I have Rose of Sharon bushes in various parts of my garden.  They spread easily and I am always fighting them growing in places I don’t want them to grow.

The reason I prefer to call it the Rose of Sherron is because my Aunt Sherron loved flowers in her yard and especially her Rose of Sharon. Every time it bloomed she would go outside to show me – even when she could hardly move around – she would proudly show me her blooming Rose of Sharon   Aunt Sherron fought hard through many health battles.  But they were like a side effect of her life.  She did not let her health issues knock her down.  Aunt Sherron had a big heart and she had a huge sense of humor.  But most of all she was always there for me.

Today, July 4, 2014, marks the 5th year without Aunt Sherron.  Aunt Sherron was more like a big sister to me than an aunt. I still miss her terribly but I am comforted with the many times we’d make each other laugh.  I loved her sense of humor.  And every time I fight those little sprouts of the Rose of Sharon I think of her.  Sometimes I think she is behind all of this.  She knew how much I liked to keep things orderly and these sprouts drive me crazy!  She’s probably getting a pretty good laugh at my expense.  🙂
